Moss is one of South Africa’s most distinguished businesspeople.
He has an encyclopedic knowledge of South African industries and
served from 1995 to 2000 as economic advisor in the Presidency
of South Africa. He also served on the African National
Congress’s (ANC)’s economic policy unit for a number of years.
He has been a consultant to the World Bank and National Housing
Forum (South Africa) on aspects of economic policy in South
Africa.

Themba was born in Soweto in 1969. His father is a doctor and his mother a businesswoman. He was educated at Haythorne Senior Secondary School in Pietermaritzburg before completing A levels in Framwellgate School in Durham, England on a British Council scholarship. He then attended the University of Westminster in London where in 1995 he completed a BSc Hons majoring in biomedical sciences. He is now an MBA candidate. In 1996 he returned to South Africa and started working as a market intelligence analyst for Standard Bank. In 1998 he joined Fedics Food Services as district manager operations based in Gauteng before becoming executive assistant to the Fedics Group managing director. He left in 2000 to found Umsongo Biotechnology which owned and operated a pathology laboratory in Durban. He joined Safika in 2006 as a corporate finance associate and in 2007 became a corporate finance executive. In this capacity he oversees the activities of several Safika subsidiaries and partner companies in the healthcare, media, building materials and property sectors. He is a director of Safika Oosthuizens and Siyavuma Transport, an enterprise development initiative with 13 owner-driver operators that operates in the area of coal transport between mines and Eskom power stations in Mpumalanga.
Diana Hobson has joined Safika as a group finance executive and company secretary. Diana is a CA who was formerly with auditing company KPMG. “Because of its many investments in a range of companies, efficient financial reporting is vital to Safika and I am charged with making that process ever smoother,” said Diana. “I work with a good team and that will make my job easier but Safika has very high standards and it will be a challenge to see if I can make things even more efficient.
“On a personal level I am finding it exciting to be involved with new deals as they come through and interacting with top people from so many industries.”
